The Wake County Academically or Intellectually Gifted Program includes a unique component for the 3rd grade, the Explorers Program. The AIG Resource Teacher works in partnership with all 3rd grade teachers to plan a variety of experiences designed to elicit high academic performance. Several times during the first semester the AIG Resource Teacher works with the classroom teacher to provide experiences that elicit higher level thinking and problem solving. During the second semester of 3rd grade students who have met the identification criteria for the AIG Program will begin receiving AIG services in the area of either ELA and/or Math.
Students who perform or show potential for high levels of accomplishment will participate in small group extension activities. Some students may participate in one or more small group experiences, while some students may not demonstrate a need for extension activities. Participation in a small group experience does not mean that the student has been or will be identified for future AIG services.
